About
I'm Chris Ranalli, an Assistant Professor of Philosophy (tenured) at
VU Amsterdam
.
My research is primarily in epistemology.
My work includes
What's so bad about Echo chambers?
and
Closed-minded Belief and Indoctrination
.
More recently, I've been exploring the applied and ethical dimensions of skepticism, in
Is Radical Doubt Morally Wrong?
I also have interests in philosophy of mind and value theory, especially their intersection.
Some of my recent work includes
The Special Value of Experience
,
Knowledge of Things and Aesthetic Testimony
, and a public piece called
Erasing consciousness
.
I'm part of the ERC
Extreme Beliefs
research group, working on coercive influences on belief. I'm also a research affiliate within the DFG
Thinking about Suspension
network, where I'm thinking about how suspension of judgment can be wrongful.
I studied philosophy at the
University of Edinburgh
(Ph.D.),
UC Berkeley
, and
VCU
(BA). I've worked at the
University of Cologne
with the support of an Alexander von Humboldt Foundation grant, and at the
Instituto de Investigaciones Filosóficas
