I'm an Assistant Professor of Philosophy (tenure-track) at VU Amsterdam.

I'm part of the ERC Extreme Beliefs research group. I'm currently working on social applications of the ethics of belief, particularly the grittiness of belief and its value; how systems and social structure can undermine epistemic agency; and interpersonal virtues and vices of doubt.

I'm also a research affiliate within the DFG Thinking about Suspension network. I'm exploring the relationship between suspension of judgment and our (inter-)personal commitments.

My research is primarily in epistemology. I also have interests in philosophy of mind and ethics, especially their intersection.

Some recent work: Knowledge of Things and Aesthetic Testimony (Inquiry), Closed-minded Belief and Indoctrination (American Philosophical Quarterly), and The Special Value of Experience (Oxford Studies in Philosophy of Mind).

I'm writing a book, The Philosophy of Indoctrination: Epistemology, Ethics, & Politics (Routledge), and co-editing a volume Responsibility for Extreme Beliefs (Oxford University Press).
